Water Safety Programs:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is dedicated to water safety. Sadly, each year there are a number of drownings or other non-fatal injuries that happen on our lakes. In order to make the community more aware and prepared for their time on the water, we are reaching out to provide water safety programs to those who have been actively using U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities.

Our ranger-led water safety programs are free of charge and can be tailored to meet your specific needs. You can request that a program be presented during club or community meetings at your location within the Lake Russell area, or at the Lake Russell Office auditorium when you arrive. Programs can be presented to adults or children. All programs will require some coordination, so be sure to contact us well in advance of the date you prefer.
  • Basic Water Safety – Ranger led discussion/demonstration of the potential dangers found in and around the water and how to prepare for them
  • Mini-boat Program – The Boating and Safety Course is to provide an introduction and awareness of basic boating and water safety. The program provides children with demonstrations and information regarding Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s), rescue assist techniques, knot tying and mooring, fire extinguisher and regulations and Aids to Navigation. The instructor has the choice of teaching all five stations or a selected few. The decision is based on the group size, interest, skill level, age, and availability of time.
  • Safe Boating Demonstration – A basic boating safety demonstration geared to your group’s age. Could also be presented by the Georgia or South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
