U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to resume collection of day use recreation fees at Hartwell and Thurmond Lakes October 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will resume the collection of fees at its day use recreation areas beginning October 1. Fee collections were suspended earlier this year when recreation areas were closed due to COVID-19 precautions. Fees will initially be collected only at locations with automated fee collection machines installed. Additional automated fee machines will be phased in at all fee collection sites over the next several months.

Corps of Engineers to reopen primitive campgrounds at Thurmond Lake

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Corps of Engineers officials at Hartwell Lake have closed all access at Singing Pines Recreation Area, including the roadway leading to the boat ramp parking area, in response to repeated trespassing of the adjacent closed day-use area and public safety issues along the park entrance road and the boat ramp parking area.

COE to reopen additional boat ramps, some campgrounds

Strom Thurmond Lake have closed an additional three boat ramps in cooperation with local law enforcement to help achieve the national individual distancing standards set by the government. Officials previously closed the visitors center and all restrooms, campgrounds and day-use areas (and boat ramps inside those areas) at the reservoir.
