Fort Benning STEM outreach
Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District hosted a fun activity at E.A. White Elementary School to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), April 15, 2014. Students in grades 3 – 5 were asked to design and create a bridge to span a 10-inch gap using only toothpicks and gum drops. The final designs were then tested to see which bridge held the most weight. The bridges were weighed down using quarters. The students whose bridges held the most weight from each class were awarded prizes. The sturdiest bridge held 12 quarters.
