Col. Scott Avery, Fort Benning Medical Department Activity commander, and family members of the late Maj. Gen. Joseph I. Martin celebrate the opening of the new and improved Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning, Georgia Nov. 7. The original facility, completed in 1958, was dedicated to Martin who was a pioneer of Army field medicine and implemented many of the medical methods still practiced today.
