Blanket Point
This shows how, at Blanket Point, sediment and nutrient transport in the main channel of the Savannah River bypasses the cutoff bend creating stagnant water conditions which increases temperatures and decreases dissolved oxygen in the bends. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District project delivery team for the Savannah River Below Augusta Ecosystem Restoration Study is on its way to coming up with a solution to restore some of the 46 bends put in the river for historical commercial navigation dating back to the late 1800s.
