Hartwell Lake Seeks Volunteers for Earth Day Cleanup

USACE, Savannah District
Published March 13, 2023

HARTWELL, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, is seeking volunteers to help clean up around Hartwell Lake in recognition of Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Scout groups, civic organizations, church groups, schools, sport clubs, businesses, families and friends can volunteer to help keep the lake clean by gathering litter and other non-natural debris along the shoreline and islands in and around Hartwell Lake.

“This year, we are excited to be partnering with Lake Hartwell Partners for Clean Water on the clean-up,” said Hartwell Lake Chief Ranger Tanya Grant. “Lake Hartwell Partners for Clean Water is made up of government agencies and local organizations who promote source water protection for Hartwell Lake. Hartwell Lake is one of the top visited Corps lakes in the U.S., but the lake’s popularity and heavy usage also results in litter along shorelines, in coves, and on islands so we need the public’s help in keeping the lake clean.”

The clean-up will run from 9 a.m.-noon on April 22 and volunteers should sign up in advance. To register, go to Lake Hartwell Partners for Clean Water or the Corps’ Hartwell Lake Website by clicking Hartwell Clean Up Day to view the clean-up flyer and register by QR code.

There will be seven manned locations where volunteers can pick up bags and gloves as well as drop off collected trash:

  1. Hurricane Creek Boat Ramp
  2. Sadlers Creek State Park
  3. Lake Hartwell State Park
  4. Green Pond Landing
  5. Twin Lakes Boat Ramp
  6. Big Oaks Recreation Area
  7. Tugaloo State Park

Volunteers can arrive by boat or vehicle or make arrangements to start from home.

For questions, please contact Corps Chief Ranger Tanya Grant at 706-856-0300, ext. 0323 or Sadlers Creek State Park Manager Raymond Felton at 864-226-8950.
