    SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Forest, Fish, and Wildlife Section will accept real Christmas Trees for recycling as fish habitat at J. Strom Thurmond Lake from Dec. 18, 2023, through Jan. 14, 2024, and at Hartwell Dam and Lake Project from Dec. 26, 2023, through Jan. 26, 2024.

  • Corps of Engineers to Host Youth Waterfowl Hunts at Richard B. Russell Lake

    ELBERTON, Ga. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, will conduct youth waterfowl hunts at the Richard B. Russell Project during the months of December and January for participants 9-16 years old.
  • Boundary Line Maintenance at J. Strom Thurmond Project

    AUGUSTA, Ga. – Workers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, at J. Strom Thurmond Project have begun work to inspect and re-paint approximately 50 miles of the existing boundary line trees with bright orange paint, normally a 4-inch band around half of each tree. The work will continue through the autumn and winter and wrap up before spring arrives.
  • Upper Savannah River Reservoirs Enter Drought Level 2

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The three reservoirs on the upper Savannah River Basin operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, declared the second flow reduction in two months in response to the pool elevation at Lake Thurmond dipping below Drought Trigger Level 2, Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Works to Address Petroleum Soil Found Along Shoreline at Buxton

    BUXTON, N.C. (USACE) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has completed its initial analysis of historical documentation, information gathered during site visits and soil samples since peat balls containing petroleum appeared in September on a section of shoreline in Buxton, N.C., near the former U.S. Navy facility.
