Corps to host youth waterfowl hunts at Richard B. Russell Lake

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District will conduct five youth waterfowl hunts for the 2018-2019 season at the Richard B. Russell Project Office on Nov. 24, Dec. 8, Dec. 22, Jan. 5, and Jan 12 (dates subject to change). Hunters must be at least 9 years old but no older than 16 to participate.

For all hunts, a parent or guardian must accompany youth participants and will be permitted to shoot along with the youth hunter. Hunters will be selected by random drawing. Hunters must call Jeff Brooks at 800-944-7207 ext. 3424 at the Russell Project Office no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 8 to enter the drawing.

Hunters can also submit a letter requesting consideration for the hunts. Address letters to: Jeff Brooks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Richard B. Russell Project Office, 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. The letter must include preferred dates of hunt, names of the youth and adult, age, address, and home and daytime phone numbers. Letters must also arrive at the Richard B. Russell Project Office by 5 p.m. Nov. 8. Hunters will be notified of their selection before each individual hunt.

All hunters will be checked in at the project office. Parents or guardians must be licensed in accordance with existing Georgia Hunting Regulations including the Migratory Bird Hunting License (H.I.P.), state, and federal waterfowl stamps. All state regulations and bag limits will be strictly enforced. Legal firearms and ammunition for waterfowl hunting are identified in the Georgia Hunting Regulations for Late Season Migratory Birds.
