Richard B. Russell Lake holds 32nd Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Richard B. Russell Project Office, is hosting the 32nd Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Blue Hole Recreation Area, located on Hwy. 81 in Calhoun Falls, SC.

Youth, ages 5-15, may participate, if registered. Check-in is from 7-8 a.m. and fishing hours are from 8-11 a.m. A water safety program will follow along with prizes and a free lunch. Lunch is provided to all registered participants by the Lake Russell Recreation and Tourism Coalition and consists of a sandwich, chips, drink, and dessert. Attendees 16 or older may purchase a lunch for $5 per person (subject to availability).

Along with fishing for stocked catfish, yard games, a playground, and an archery area will be available and free. Several prizes will be awarded, including a grand prize drawing for a loaded tackle box.

Space is limited to the first 100 anglers, so registration is required to reserve your spot and lunch. To register please call the Russell Lake Project Office at 706-213-3400 or 1-800-944-7207.

Parents and guardians can fish outside the net during the fishing derby with a Georgia or South Carolina fishing license. Youth 15 and younger do not need a fishing license. Restrooms and drinking water will be available for everyone, but attendees should plan to bring their own chair, fishing gear, and sunscreen. Life jackets are highly recommended for children and weak swimmers who will be near the water.
