The Savannah District established a Family Readiness Network in 2009 to support families of hundreds of team members who volunteer to deploy in response to defense operations as well as natural disasters, both at home and abroad.
The Savannah District has one of the highest response rates in the Corps of Engineers for Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has deployed more than 200 team members to facilitate the construction of critical infrastructure and public facilities for these countries. Year after year, we continue to surpass the nationwide goal for OCO deployments.
The Savannah District also is home to the 542nd Engineer Detachment—a specialized team of Soldiers and civilians. The detachment is one of eight Forward Engineer Support Teams within Corps of Engineers that deploys with Army units and provides commanders with technical assessments, design and construction management services.
With such a successful deployment portfolio, the district recognized the need to provide a network of friendship, support and resources to the families who make our emergency response mission possible. The Savannah District is committed to creating a community that is empowered, sustained and unified by informed and resilient families in support of the nation’s engineering challenges.
