BUILDING STRONG for the military and the nation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District oversees a multi-million dollar military construction program at 11 Army and Air Force installations in Georgia and North Carolina, and provides real estate services for the Department of Defense across the globe. The Savannah district also manages water resources across the Coastal Georgia region, including maintenance dredging of the Savannah and Brunswick harbors to ensure safe and efficient passage of ship traffic; operation of three hydroelectric dams and reservoirs along the upper Savannah River; and administration of the Regulatory stream and wetland permitting program within the state of Georgia. The district continually deploys team members in support of emergency and contingency operations at home and abroad. Additionally, the Savannah district embraces community outreach and education in various communities with students, stakeholders and the general public.

Balancing the Basin

The need for water puts great demands on the Savannah River Basin. The US Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District coordinates water management efforts with federal and state natural resource agencies to balance the needs of the Savannah River’s upstream and downstream users. This 8-minute video gives an overview of the various uses for this much-needed resource.

Savannah River Basin Level 4 Drought Operations Study – Final
 

After reviewing public and agency comments received in the spring of 2011, the Savannah District has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for operations during Level 4 drought conditions on the Savannah River.. Construction Quality Management for Contractors
 

The Savannah District will host a one-day “Construction Quality Management for Contractors" course on February 28, 2012 beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the General Services Administration (GSA) Building B, Room 301 located at 124 Barnard Street in Savannah (across from Savannah District Headquarters). The course is free of charge. However, seating is limited and will be assigned on a first come/first served basis. To register, contact Mr. Felipe Vigo at (912) 652-5101, or via email felipe.l.vigo@usace.army.mil to confirm space availability.
