Seeking more members for Camp Croft FUDS Restoration Advisory Board

USACE, Savannah District
Published Sept. 17, 2025

SAVANNAH, Ga. – In support of expanding community participation in the current Camp Croft Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) property Restoration Advisory Board (RAB), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) invites interested members of the public to volunteer to join the board during a public request period that began Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 31, 2025.

The Camp Croft FUDS property currently has an active RAB that includes a few members from the local community, as well as a representative from the Corps of Engineers and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services. However, the current RAB members would like more local people to join.

Those interested in being a RAB member should be willing to spend time reviewing Army environmental restoration documents within the prescribed timeframes and attend all quarterly RAB meetings, which typically last approximately two hours. Meetings are held within 20 miles of the Croft State Park. Joining as a member of the RAB is strictly voluntary, and the Corps of Engineers does not provide any form of financial compensation to RAB community members.

The Corps of Engineers is conducting environmental remediation activities at the Camp Croft FUDS property, located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to address risks from munitions that remain at the Camp’s former ranges. The remedies involve public education, signage, and removal of munitions for some projects.

As part of the restoration process, the Department of Defense encourages community involvement through RABs, which provide a collaborative forum for stakeholders to discuss and identify the most efficient and productive means to restore the environment with officials from the Corps of Engineers and state agencies. The community RAB members select the community co-chair, making the RAB jointly co-chaired by the Corps of Engineers and a community representative. Community members do not have to be a RAB member to attend the meetings. The meetings are open to the public.

To join the Camp Croft FUDS property RAB, contact Stephen Fox by calling 912-652-6210, or email him at Stephen.M.Fox@usace.army.mil or mail a letter to him at U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: Stephen Fox, 100 W. Oglethorpe Avenue, Savannah, Georgia  31401-3640, before the Oct. 31 deadline. The application can be found here.
