SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has reopened reservations for Hawe Creek and Modoc Campgrounds at J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake for the 2026 season, which is March 27, 2026, through Sept. 13, 2026.

Reservations are currently open to book a stay at both campgrounds. These are the first campgrounds cleared for reservations for the 2026 season by the Corps of Engineers at Thurmond Lake since Hurricane Helene hit in September 2024.

“The removal of debris and other hazards, along with the completion of maintenance and repairs, has made this reopening possible,” said Thurmond Park Operations Manager Chrissy Alford. “We will continue to make repairs to the other campgrounds, and we appreciate the public's continued patience and cooperation as work continues."

The reservation site is www.recreation.gov and camping reservations can be made up to six months in advance. To make a reservation at Hawe Creek, visit www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232596 and for Modoc, visit www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232645.
