SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, is hosting the 36th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Richard B. Russell Lake.
Space is limited, so youth anglers need to register to reserve a spot. To register scan the QR code below or visit 36th Annual Russell Lake Youth Fishing Derby.
Once registered, youth, ages 5-15, may participate in a day of family fun and fishing at Calhoun Falls Bank Fishing Area, located on Highway 72 in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina. The area will be freshly stocked with catfish and ready for fishing. Check-in is from 7-8 a.m. and fishing hours are from 8-11 a.m.
A water safety program will take place after the fishing ends and then prizes will be awarded. A free lunch is provided by the Calhoun Falls Chamber of Commerce, for all registered participants. It includes a sandwich, chips, a drink, and dessert. Attendees 16 or older may purchase a lunch for $5 per person (subject to availability). In addition to the prizes, there will be a grand prize drawing.
Parents and guardians can fish outside the netted area during the fishing derby, if they have a valid Georgia or South Carolina fishing license. Youth 15 and younger do not need a fishing license. Portable restrooms and drinking water will be available for everyone. However, attendees should bring their own chair, fishing gear, and sunscreen. Life jackets are highly recommended for children and weak swimmers who will be near the water.
