CLARKS HILL, S.C. – Effective immediately, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, will have temporary closures at the J. Strom Thurmond Lake West Dam Day Use area for the next few weeks, Monday through Thursday, while beach and playground sand is delivered and spread inside the park.

The closures are in effect to ensure public safety while contractors operate heavy equipment within the recreation area.

For more lake information, contact the J. Strom Thurmond Project Office at 800-533-3478 or 864-333-1100, or visit the webpage at J. Strom Thurmond.

Swimming in undesignated areas is the leading activity for most drownings that occur at Corps of Engineers’ lakes and river projects, so be prepared and please wear a life jacket when swimming, floating, and playing in open water. #LifeJacketsWornNobodyMourns
