SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has launched a streamlined digital dashboard designed to give boaters, homeowners, and stakeholders instant access to critical water management data across the Savannah River Basin.
The new portal, available at water.usace.army.mil/office/sas, provides a one-stop shop for real-time information previously spread across multiple technical reports. This tool serves as a vital resource for safety and situational awareness for the three major dam projects the District manages -- Hartwell, Richard B. Russell, and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes and Dams.
“We recognize whether you’re a homeowner monitoring dock levels or a boater planning a trip, having accurate, live data is essential,” said Craig Clarke, Savannah District water manager. “This website turns complex hydrologic data into straightforward charts and simple tools, giving our community a trusted way to see changing conditions in one place. It’s designed to help everyone stay connected and make confident decisions about their time on the water.”
Key Features for Basin Users:
- Live Pool Elevations: View current water levels at all three major reservoirs compared to target summer and winter sub-pools.
- Outflow & Discharge Rates: Monitor how much water is being released from dams in cubic feet per second (cfs), essential for downstream river safety.
- Precipitation Totals: Track 24-hour and cumulative rainfall data across the basin to anticipate rising levels.
- Drought Status: Quickly identify the current drought trigger level and associated water conservation measures.
The mobile-friendly interface is designed for use in the field, allowing users to check conditions directly from a boat ramp or dock. The public is encouraged to bookmark the portal at https://water.usace.army.mil/office/sas.
