SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District, at J. Strom Thurmond Lake, invites community members to participate cleaning up litter, in celebration of National Public Lands Day, on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event dedicated to the stewardship of public lands. Each year, volunteers across the country come together to improve parks, lakes, forests, and other public spaces through conservation and service projects.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate and help preserve J. Strom Thurmond Lake for future generations. Volunteers can help remove litter and debris from recreation areas and shoreline locations, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for visitors and wildlife.
Suggested Cleanup Sites:
• Scotts Ferry Boat Ramp
• Tarzan’s Hole
• Clarks Hill Day Use Area
• Keg Creek Boat Ramp
• Modoc Boat Ramp
• Columbia Wayside at the base of Price Lake Bridge
Volunteers may also choose another area of the lake for litter pickup. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for outdoor work. Gloves, trash bags, and other cleanup supplies will be provided to volunteers who RSVP and are available at the Visitor Center.
Collected litter and debris may be dropped off at the J. Strom Thurmond Visitor Center, located at 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill, South Carolina. Drop-off will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
