    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins Hurricane Michael debris clean-up in Georgia

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with local government officials, announces the start of debris removal activity in Georgia, under the direction of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA) as part of the FEMA debris mission assignment. The first haul is scheduled to take place Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at 3 p.m., between 144 and 198 Somerset Drive in Albany, Georgia. All interested media are invited to attend for coverage. For the next several months debris will be picked up by contractors operating under the direction of the Corps of Engineers, GEMA/HS and FEMA.

    Corps to host youth waterfowl hunts at Richard B. Russell Lake

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District will conduct five youth waterfowl hunts for the 2018-2019 season at the Richard B. Russell Project Office on Nov. 24, Dec. 8, Dec. 22, Jan. 5, and Jan 12 (dates subject to change). Hunters must be at least 9 years old but no older than 16 to participate.

    Lake Hartwell’s Glenn Ferry access area to close temporarily for road repairs

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Project Office will temporarily close the Glenn Ferry boat ramp in Anderson County, South Carolina, on Oct. 29 to repair the access road. Repair work will take approximately two weeks and the ramp should reopen by Nov. 9, weather permitting.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Office will open four of its larger recreation areas for archery and small game hunting during the regular 2018-2019 Georgia hunting season. These areas include: • Paynes Creek Park, Hart County, Georgia (399 acres) • Hartwell Dam Quarry Area, Hart County, Georgia (410 acres) • New Prospect Park, Hart County, Georgia (34 acres) • Jenkins Ferry Park, Stephens County, Georgia (31 acres)

    Lake Russell officials seek volunteers for annual clean-up day

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Richard B. Russell Lake seeks volunteers for the annual National Public Lands Day clean-up event to be held Sept. 22. The Corps of Engineers holds the event in conjunction with Georgia’s Rivers Alive program. Volunteers are being sought to gather litter and debris along the shoreline and islands in and around Russell Lake anytime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2018.

    Construction may disrupt some waterways in the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge through October 2019

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Boaters using the Savannah River, the Middle River and the Little Back River through the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge will encounter extensive construction near Rifle Cut and McCoy’s Cut during the next 13 months. Boaters are urged to remain clear from all construction equipment and to exercise extreme caution while in the construction area.
