Brookley Air Force Base

Brookley Air Force

The former Brookley Air Force Base (AFB) is located in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama.  The site is located near downtown Mobile, adjacent to Interstate Highway 10 and Mobile Bay.  The site is relatively flat and slopes to the east toward Mobile Bay.

The 3,156-acre site was acquired by the DoD between 1940 and 1955 and was operated by the Air Force as a general support and supply base until 1969.  Facilities at the former Brookley AFB included runways and maintenance areas for aircraft, underground and aboveground fuel storage facilities, associated buildings, roads, housing, and landfills.  No human consumption or agricultural wells are located within the boundaries of the former Brookley AFB.

The property is currently owned by the MAA and the City of Mobile (who recently purchased the land from the University of South Alabama.
