    Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it is seeking comments on its proposal to renew and revise 50 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. In addition, USACE is proposing to issue two new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing the removal of low-head dams and the construction and maintenance of living shorelines.

    Portion of Bartram Trail Temporarily Closed for Improvements

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Bartram Trail’s Petersburg Trailhead will receive more than $100,000 worth of improvements thanks to a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, Southern Off-road Bicycle Association’s CRSA Chapter (SORBA-CSRA), and five businesses near J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake.

    Corps of Engineers closes due to weather

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close at noon today and remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to hazardous winter weather. In addition, the district will implement a “liberal leave” policy for Thursday.

    Deer hunt for paralyzed veterans slated for Hartwell Dam & Lake; Quarry Hunting Area to close for hunt

    The US Army Corps of Engineers, Hartwell Lake Office will hold a special deer hunt in cooperation with the Paralyzed Veterans of America Nov. 25 – 26 at the Quarry Hunting Area. The area is located adjacent to the Hartwell Operations Project Manager’s Office near the intersection of Highways 181 & 29 in Georgia. The Corps will temporarily close the area for general public hunting to accommodate the hunt.
  • Corps retrieves piece of Civil War ironclad from Savannah River

    Archeologists working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, aided by divers and salvage operations teams from the U.S. Navy, retrieved a 64-square foot section of a Civil War ironclad warship from the bottom of the Savannah River the evening of Nov. 12.

    Thurmond Lake sets primitive weapon deer hunt dates

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ J. Strom Thurmond Project Office will conduct primitive weapon deer hunts in Bussey Point, located in Lincoln Co., Ga. These annual hunts are held in order to maintain the deer population within the carrying capacity for the area and to improve the quality of the herd.
