Five Soldiers from the 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, assisted the Savannah District with a topographic and hydrographic survey of a man-made bird island along the East River near Cumberland Island, Aug. 4, 2025.The artificial island, located just north of Kings Bay, was created using dredged sediment from the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and is designed to provide nesting and foraging habitat for a variety of shorebird and seabird species.
