SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District’s, website has been updated with the Buxton Formerly Used Defense Sites Property Pipe Removal Report, which summarizes the results of the pipe removal effort and post-removal soil sampling that took place in May 2024.

Recycle real Christmas trees at Thurmond, Hartwell Lakes for fish habitat

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District’s Forest, Fish, and Wildlife Section at the J. Strom Thurmond Lake and the Hartwell Dam and Lake will accept real Christmas trees for recycling as fish habitat again this season.

Corps of Engineers unveils fish passage plan for lock & dam

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today unveiled its recommended plan to allow fish passage around the currently existing New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam. The new plan will consist of a fixed weir to allow fish access to traditional spawning grounds between the lock and dam and Thurmond Dam.
