  • Volunteers sought for National Public Lands Day cleanup on Russell Lake

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Its clean up time on Russell Lake! Richard B. Russell Lake is celebrating National Public Lands Day on Saturday September 26, by holding a lake wide clean-up event.
  • Corps of Engineers to reopen day use areas at Hartwell, Thurmond and Russell

    Most day use areas and facilities operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers along the Savannah River reopened June 24, 2020. Beaches in open day use and campground areas also opened June 24, 2020.
  • Upper Savannah reservoirs enter Drought Level 1

    SAVANNAH, Ga. –The three reservoirs on the Savannah River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers declared the first drought level Tuesday in response to the pool elevation at J. Strom Thurmond Lake dipping below 326.0 feet above mean sea level (ft-msl). Entering Trigger Level 1 activates the Corps’ drought management plan which conserves water in the reservoirs by reducing the outflows from the Thurmond Dam.
  • Russell Lake seeks volunteers for National Public Lands Day cleanup

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – As part of the annual National Public Lands Day celebration, officials at Richard B. Russell Lake seek volunteers to help clean up shoreline and islands at the reservoir along the Georgia and South Carolina border, on Sept. 28.
  • 31st annual Kids’ Fishing Derby comes to Russell Lake May 4

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Richard B. Russell Project Office, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the Lake Russell Recreation and Tourism Coalition, will host the 31st Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby, Saturday, May 4.
  • 30th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby kicks off April 21

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The ever-popular Kids’ Fishing Derby celebrates its 30th year April 21 at the Blue Hole Recreation Area on Russell Lake in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina. Participants must be 15 years old or younger to fish in the netted cove purposefully stocked with fish for the derby.
  • Corps sets dates for youth waterfowl hunts at Russell Lake

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District will conduct five youth waterfowl hunts at the Richard B. Russell Lake Nov. 25, Dec. 9, Dec. 23, 2017; and Jan. 6 and Jan 20, 2018 (dates subject to change). Three slots will be available at each hunt for youth hunters ages 9 to 15.
  • Corps to host youth dove hunts at Russell Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct two youth dove hunts at the Richard B. Russell Project Office on Sept. 9 and 16, 2017. The hunts will begin at 2 p.m. and end at sunset.
  • Russell Lake officials seek volunteers for annual cleanup

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Richard B. Russell Lake seek volunteers to assist with the annual National Public Lands Day cleanup at the reservoir this year. National Public Lands Day will be observed throughout September at Russell Lake. Georgia’s Rivers Alive organization will partner with the Corps of Engineers to sponsor the cleanup. Volunteers for the cleanup campaign will work on the shoreline and islands in and around Russell Lake anytime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2017, National Public Lands Day.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 29th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby promises to give area youth an opportunity to spend a morning vying for bragging rights April 22 at the Blue Hole Recreation Area at Richard B. Russell Lake.
