    HARTWELL, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Hartwell Dam and Lake Project Office is seeking volunteers for the fall “Splash Away the Trash” event on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in support of National Public Lands Day. Families, friends, scout groups, civic organizations, church groups, schools, sport clubs, and businesses, can volunteer to help keep the lake clean by gathering litter and other non-natural debris along the shoreline and islands in and around Hartwell Lake.

  • Upper Savannah River Reservoirs Enter Drought Level 1

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – In response to the pool elevation at Hartwell and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes dropping, the three reservoirs on the Upper Savannah River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, have triggered the first drought trigger level Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, and will transition to drought releases at Thurmond over the weekend.

    CLARKS HILL, S.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Lake and Dam Project, Forest, Fish, and Wildlife section, will host primitive weapons deer hunts in Bussey Point Corps Management Unit, located in Lincoln County, Georgia, in October, November and December this year.

    Hartwell Lake day-use fees must be paid by credit, debit card at automated fee stations

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Now that warm weather is here, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, at Hartwell Lake and Dam Project Office would like to remind park visitors to bring a debit or credit card to pay for the use of a boat ramp and/or visits to day-use parks, as cash isn’t accepted at the automated fee stations.

    Buxton FUDS pipe removal work completed, results pending

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has completed the pipe removal work at the former Buxton Naval Facility Formerly Used Defense Sites property in Dare County North Carolina, but results from soil sampling, which will identify the next steps, are still pending.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, in coordination with the Dare County Board of Commissioners, would like to invite the Buxton community to a public meeting Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Fessenden Center, located at 46830 North Carolina Highway 12, Buxton, North Carolina.

  • Contract to remove potential source of petroleum awarded ahead of schedule

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Leadership from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division and the Savannah District conducted a site visit to Buxton, North Carolina, May 1, 2024, to meet with representatives from the National Park Service and Dare County to evaluate current conditions at the Formerly Used Defense Site Buxton Naval Facility and discuss agency and public concerns regarding the reported petroleum contamination. Since the visit, a contract to remove a pipe to determine if it’s the source of the reported petroleum was awarded ahead of schedule.
