    Parksville, SC. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, J. Strom Thurmond Project’s temporary closure continues at Parksville Day Use Area due to a public safety concern resulting from a large sink hole in the entrance road. Currently, there isn’t an estimated reopening date, but the process to repair it is being expedited. Guests are asked to please refrain from entering the park.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announces Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes are no longer in drought operations due to the recent rain events over the Savannah River System Basin.
  • Recreation Facility and Special Event Permit Fee Increases at Thurmond and Hartwell Lakes

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announces fee increases for camping and shelter reservations as well as special event permits at the J. Strom Thurmond and Hartwell Lake Projects effective Jan. 1, 2023. Fee updates are a result of the Fiscal Year 2022 User Fee Comparability Study. The study was completed at both projects, performing a comparison of facilities, amenities, and fee structures with local, state, county, and private campgrounds and parks. Existing campground, shelter reservations and special event applications will be honored at the rate when originally submitted.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Military Construction team took home the Gold for the American Concrete Pavement Association’s Military Airports award category during a ceremony in Nashville, Tn., Dec. 1, 2022, for the Pope Army Airfield runway reconstruction project that was completed within 120 days at Fort Bragg, N.C.
