Upper Savannah River Reservoirs Enter Drought Level 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The three reservoirs on the Upper Savannah River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, declared the first drought level Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, in response to the pool elevation at J. Strom Thurmond Lake dipping below 326.0 feet above mean sea level (ft-msl).

Change of Command for Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Colonel Ron Sturgeon took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, from Col. Joseph Geary, in a formal ceremony at 10 a.m., today, Aug. 4, 2023. Brig. Gen. Daniel Hibner, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ South Atlantic Division, officiated at the formal change of command ceremony in The DeSoto, Cumberland Ballroom, in Savannah, Georgia.

Parksville Day Use Area – Sink Hole Repairs Underway

PARKSVILLE, S.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, is pleased to announce the J. Strom Thurmond Project's subcontractor has begun repairs to the damaged road at Parksville Day Use Area. The damage was caused by a sink hole in February.
