AUGUSTA, Ga. – The U.S Army Corps of Engineers, at the J. Strom Thurmond Lake has closed access to West Dam Recreation Area and the Bartram Trail at West Dam effective immediately, Aug. 25th, 2023, due to a main water line leak.
The cause has not been determined, and an estimated date for the park to reopen is unknown at this time. Updates will be released as they become available.
Current shelter reservations will be refunded or moved upon request and availability. A temporary hold will be placed on making new reservations.
The closest Corps’ operated day-use area to West Dam is Clarks Hill Park, which is 2.8 miles away.
