SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials with the J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake Project in the Savannah River basin seek comments from the public as they update the Shoreline Management Plan for the reservoir and its adjoining lands.

The shoreline management plan describes how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will efficiently and effectively manage the shoreline, adjacent public lands and waters of Thurmond Lake. Thurmond Lake is public property, and as such, it is available for use by all. The plan describes some types of private uses that may be authorized on lands and waters managed by the Corps of Engineers. Further, the plan addresses shoreline allocations, violations, and other relevant information specific to the Thurmond Lake shoreline management program.

The Corps last updated the Thurmond Shoreline Management Plan in 2001.

Comments may cover any subject the public or agencies consider significant in the management of the shoreline at the Thurmond Project.

The public will be able to review the draft Shoreline Management Plan and Draft EA online athttp://www.sas.usace.army.mil/About/Divisions-and-Offices/Planning-Division/Plans-and-Reports/ or may request a copy via email to CESAS-PD@usace.army.mil with “JST Shoreline Management Plan” in the subject.

Officials must receive comments by noon Oct. 7, 2016. The public can send letters to: Resource Manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Project Management Office, 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill, SC 29821. Comments can be submitted electronically to: CESAS-PD@usace.army.mil.
