Corps’ contractors to complete first debris pickup in Miller County Dec. 22, begin second pass Dec. 29

Published Dec. 7, 2018

SAVANNAH, Ga. – By Dec. 22, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working with local government officials, will complete the first pass picking up debris generated by Hurricane Michael in Miller County, Ga. In anticipation of the second pass, residents should place any storm-generated debris along the side of the roadway before the morning of the county's scheduled start date for the second and final pass.

Residents should separate debris into different categories as shown in the illustration.

Approximately 70 percent of the debris will be collected on the first pass. After further assessment the Corps of Engineers, along with Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA), have jointly concluded a second pass will be sufficient to collect the remaining vegetative debris under the mission assignment's scope of work caused by Hurricane Michael. This mission assignment does not include agricultural debris. Therefore the second pass will be the final pass.

This final pass for Miller County begins on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018.

Under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's debris mission assignment, the Corps of Engineers’ contractors have removed more than 170,000 cubic yards of debris from Miller County as of Dec. 5, 2018.
