SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah and Mobile Districts, have awarded an architectural engineering service contract Dec. 30, 2024, for approximately $800k to support the ongoing Risk, Resiliency, and Water Line Condition Assessment Study for the City of Atlanta.
The selected architectural engineering service, HDR Engineering, Inc., will partner with the Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Atlanta to evaluate risks and enhance the resiliency of the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management's drinking water system.
Following the award, HDR Engineering, Inc., will integrate existing water line data and modeling to perform an advanced ‘consequence of failure analysis,’ that will help identify which water lines should be prioritized for assessments, repair, and/or replacement.
The results of the project will be documented into a final report, including a prioritized ranking, for future water line work along with the associated cost estimates, which will be included in the city’s capital improvement plan.
The Army Corps of Engineers will provide technical oversight for the contract, review of the deliverables, and facilitate communications with the City of Atlanta. The period of performance for the AE contract is one year.
This project falls under the Army Corps of Engineers ‘Planning Assistance to States’ authority, and the collection of fees (cost-share) for this project has been waived, as authorized by Section 8119 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2022.
