    Recycle real Christmas trees at Hartwell Lake for fish habitat

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District’s Forest, Fish, and Wildlife Section at the Hartwell Dam and Lake will accept real Christmas trees for recycling as fish habitat again this season, beginning Dec. 26, 2025, through Jan. 26, 2026.

    Boundary Line Maintenance Ongoing at J. Strom Thurmond Project

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Workers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District at J. Strom Thurmond Project began inspecting and re-painting approximately 85 miles of the existing boundary line mid-October 2025.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has reopened reservations for Hawe Creek and Modoc Campgrounds at J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake for the 2026 season, which is March 27, 2026, through Sept. 13, 2026.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has completed its Hurricane Helene debris removal operations, collectively removing 242,645.5 cubic yards of downed timber and debris from J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake recreation areas.

    Team Visits Buxton FUDS Property for Post Hurricane Erin Update

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Headquarters and South Atlantic Division were at the Buxton FUDS property in Dare County, North Carolina, alongside the Savannah District commander, Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Program team and Bay West contractors this week assessing the damage unearthed by Hurricane Erin, to determine the best way forward to clean up the site.
