    Richard Thomas, area engineer for Robins Air Force Base Area Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, was named a 2024 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Modern-Day Technology Leader. Thomas will receive his award in February during the 2024 BEYA STEM DTX Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

    Growing up in a household where both parents were educators, Richard Thomas initially aspired to follow in their footsteps. However, his parents steered him towards exploring alternative paths. Consequently, Thomas pursued a degree in Civil Engineering, leading to a fulfilling career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that has taken him on a global journey.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah and Jacksonville Districts began collaborating in February on a restoration project at the Dredged Material Containment Area 1S, located on the Savannah River near Port Wentworth, Georgia, as part of the mitigation requirements associated with the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
