  • 5th Stree Levee Stairway

    Expiration date: 10/13/2019

REQUESTED ALTERATION: The proposed modification is to rehabilitate the 5th Street Bridge over the Savannah River. One of the tasks is to construct concrete steps on the slope of the levee from Marina Road to the Access Road on top at approximate levee station 164+75. The concrete steps will be constructed onto the grade of the levee slope with no gaps between the steps and the levee surface. Erosion prevention will be provided along the sides of the stairway. The stairway will have foundations constructed directly on the levee soils. No change to the flow of the Savannah River is anticipated because of the construction. No work in or on the· River is planned. No debris from construction activities on the bridge will be allowed to fall into the river and containment systems will be used during bridge painting.

  • City of Tybee Island, dune construction

    Expiration date: 10/13/2019

REQUESTED ALTERATION: The proposed modification is to incorporate dunes within the limits of the federally authorized project, as seen in the attachment. The City of Tybee will undertake restoration of the dunes during USACE periodic beach renourishment. They maintain the dunes landward of the federal template as a routine part of the Operation and Maintenance. Tybee will be restoring dunes damaged over the past three years by Hurricanes Matthew (2016), lrma (2017), Michael, and Florence [both 2018]. The dune restoration requires minor incursion into the federal template to move sand to appropriate locations. Construction of the dunes, vegetation, and construction of cross-overs to provide appropriate public access will be undertaken and financed by the City of Tybee Island. REQUESTER: City of Tybee
