  • Hartwell, Russell, Thurmond Lakes no longer in drought operations

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announces Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes are no longer in drought operations due to the recent rain events over the Savannah River System Basin.
  • Recreation Facility and Special Event Permit Fee Increases at Thurmond and Hartwell Lakes

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announces fee increases for camping and shelter reservations as well as special event permits at the J. Strom Thurmond and Hartwell Lake Projects effective Jan. 1, 2023. Fee updates are a result of the Fiscal Year 2022 User Fee Comparability Study. The study was completed at both projects, performing a comparison of facilities, amenities, and fee structures with local, state, county, and private campgrounds and parks. Existing campground, shelter reservations and special event applications will be honored at the rate when originally submitted.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Forest, Fish, and Wildlife Section at the J. Strom Thurmond Lake Project will accept real Christmas Trees for recycling as fish habitat, December 19, 2022, through January 15, 2023.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – After four months of data collection, the Engineer Research and Development Center completed the study for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, gathering enough facts to provide Tybee Island, Ga., beachgoers with six options to avoid harm from waves the large container ships produce when traveling to and from the port.
  • Project earns Savannah District Military Construction Team Top-Level Award

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Military Construction team took home the Gold for the American Concrete Pavement Association’s Military Airports award category during a ceremony in Nashville, Tn., Dec. 1, 2022, for the Pope Army Airfield runway reconstruction project that was completed within 120 days at Fort Bragg, N.C.
  • Closure Dates Extended at J. Strom Thurmond West Dam Day Use Area

    APPLING, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, J. Strom Thurmond Project is extending the closure dates at West Dam Day Use Area for repaving through Jan. 1, 2023.
  • Boundary Line Maintenance at J. Strom Thurmond Project

    AUGUSTA, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District has contracted R&D Maintenance Services to inspect and re-paint bands around each boundary tree, beginning later this week, for approximately 50 miles of the existing boundary line at J. Strom Thurmond Project.
