The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started work Oct. 26, on the first debris removal effort in the state of Georgia, only to be delayed again by the third protest of the pre-awarded contract. Work ceased Friday evening under a stop-order that is legally required until the Government Accountability Office (GAO) can assess the merits of the protest.
The Corps is working to quickly resolve this contract protest in order to resume debris removal. We remain ready and able to execute debris removal efforts under the direction of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of the FEMA debris mission assignment.
As soon as the protest is resolved, work will resume immediately.
