CLARKS HILL S.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has suspended all camping and shelter reservations at J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake for the 2025 summer season from March 28 through Sept. 7, 2025, due to the severe impacts sustained from Hurricane Helene, causing the parks to be unsafe for use.
New reservations will not be accepted, and existing reservations may be cancelled if the park is not deemed safe to open. Those who have existing reservations will be notified at least two weeks in advance of cancellation.
For those who wish to cancel or modify a current reservation, a cancellation fee will be waived. New reservations will be allowed once the parks are deemed safe.
The public’s safety is our first priority. If the campgrounds and day use areas can be made safe prior to March 2025, they will open at the beginning of the season. If not by March, there still may be a delayed opening later in the season, whenever the parks are safe.
Please check our website, Facebook, or www.recreation.gov for future camping and day use area 2025 season updates.
