  • Thurmond Lake officials seek volunteers for National Public Lands Day 2019

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks individual and group volunteers for the annual Thurmond Lake cleanup campaign on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28, 2019. Volunteers will work on a variety of projects including debris cleanup, brush clearing, and trail and park maintenance along the shoreline, islands, recreation areas, coves, old road ends and bridge areas.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Project, Forest, Fish, and Wildlife section announced the dates for the autumn primitive weapon deer hunts in Bussey Point Management Area, located in Lincoln County, Georgia.
  • Corps of Engineers to study Augusta’s ‘training wall’ in Savannah River

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – An underwater wall installed in the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia, more than a century ago will be the subject of a just-funded study by the Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District. The so-called “training wall” in the Savannah River runs from just downstream of 8th Street and ends 1,800 feet downstream of Boathouse Community Center. It aided commercial shipping in the 20th century by keeping the navigation channel deep for the port in Augusta on the Georgia side of the river.
