  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to resume collection of day use recreation fees at Hartwell and Thurmond Lakes October 1

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will resume the collection of fees at its day use recreation areas beginning October 1. Fee collections were suspended earlier this year when recreation areas were closed due to COVID-19 precautions. Fees will initially be collected only at locations with automated fee collection machines installed. Additional automated fee machines will be phased in at all fee collection sites over the next several months.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Project, Forest, Fish, and Wildlife section will host primitive weapons deer hunts in Bussey Point Corps Management Unit (CMU), located in Lincoln County, Georgia with changes to accommodate pandemic precautions this season.

  • Corps of Engineers conducts dye tests in Savannah River

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Specialists working with the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, began testing the dissolved oxygen injections systems installed along the Savannah River in Effingham and Chatham Counties as part of its ongoing environmental mitigation program for the Savannah River Expansion Project.

    Most day use areas and facilities operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers along the Savannah River reopened June 24, 2020. Beaches in open day use and campground areas also opened June 24, 2020.

  • Corps of Engineers seeks comments on Brunswick harbor modification study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comment on its draft feasibility report and Environmental Assessment on making modifications to Brunswick harbor to increase transportation efficiencies and reduce costs. The comment period opens on June 9 and closes on July 9, 2020.

  • Hartwell Lake closes Singing Pines boat ramp

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Corps of Engineers officials at Hartwell Lake have closed all access at Singing Pines Recreation Area, including the roadway leading to the boat ramp parking area, in response to repeated trespassing of the adjacent closed day-use area and public safety issues along the park entrance road and the boat ramp parking area.

  • COE to reopen additional boat ramps, some campgrounds

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Phased reopening of campgrounds and additional boat ramps at reservoirs owned and operated by the Army Corps of Engineers along the Savannah River will take place May 15 and May 18, 2020. Playgrounds, beaches, shelters and life jacket loaner stands will remain closed until further notice. Visitor centers at all three projects will remain closed to the public.

  • Clean-up of former Camp Croft begins with signing of $36.5 million contract

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Work to clean up former Camp Croft near Spartanburg, South Carolina, will begin soon following the April 1 signing of a contract between the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and a joint venture of Weston Solutions, Inc., of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and Zapata Inc., of Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • Army Corps report recommends removal of Savannah River training wall

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, recommends removing the training wall in the Savannah River which runs roughly down the center of the river for more than a mile through Augusta, Georgia, and North Augusta, South Carolina. The underwater wall was built in the early 20th century to aid commercial navigation.
