    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District has received additional funding for the Buxton Naval Facility Formerly Used Defense Sites property located within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, in Dare County North Carolina.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has reopened reservations for Hawe Creek and Modoc Campgrounds at J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake for the 2026 season, which is March 27, 2026, through Sept. 13, 2026.

  • Thurmond Lake Hurricane Helene Debris Removal Operations Complete

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has completed its Hurricane Helene debris removal operations, collectively removing 242,645.5 cubic yards of downed timber and debris from J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake recreation areas.

  • Seeking more members for Camp Croft FUDS Restoration Advisory Board

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – In support of expanding community participation in the current Camp Croft Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) property Restoration Advisory Board (RAB), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) invites interested members of the public to volunteer to join the board during a public request period that began Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 31, 2025.

    Elberton, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Richard B. Russell Project, will host dove hunts for youth and adults Sept. 20 and Oct. 4, 2025, at two fields in Elbert County, Georgia, and one field in Abbeville County, South Carolina.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – August 22, 2025 — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District team returned to Buxton, North Carolina, on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, to begin a post-Hurricane Erin assessment of the former Buxton Naval Facility, a Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) property within Cape Hatteras National Seashore in Dare County.

  • Corps of Engineers deploys emergency power team ahead of Tropical Storm Erin

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – In response to the possible threat of Tropical Storm Erin, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, deployed its Emergency Power Planning and Response Team, a 13-person team, to the U.S. Virgin Islands Thursday Aug. 14, 2025, to pre-position for potential storm recovery efforts.
