U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, holds flood waters at J. Strom Thurmond Dam
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, implemented flood risk management operations at the J. Strom Thurmond Project Dam when rain exceeded forecasted levels through portions of Georgia and South Carolina, which caused the lake and downstream river to rise. Currently, inflows into Augusta and Thurmond are starting to decrease, and spillway gates do not need to be opened.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake Office is seeking comments from the public regarding a proposed request from Big Water Marina to install and operate an inflatable water park amenity (called a Wibit) at the marina site.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has completed maintenance dredging in the Savannah River and recovered additional cannon, bringing the total brought up to 19.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – As officials consider changes to the current guidance on operation of the project’s recreational, environmental, land and wildlife management, the public may read and comment on a proposed master plan update for the Thurmond Lake project until it closes at noon, Jan. 20, 2022.

Workers’ re-mark ‘witness tree’ boundaries at Thurmond Project
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District contracted R&D Maintenance Services, and work began Nov. 15, to inspect and re-paint a 4-inch band around half of each boundary tree for approximately 50 miles of the existing boundary line at J. Strom Thurmond Project.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – As a federal resource agency, the Army Corps of Engineers provides certain protections to wetlands, wildlife at Corps’ reservoirs, and in operation of our nation’s rivers and harbors. Not only do we have a legal obligation to do so, we also have a moral responsibility which we take very seriously – and personally.

Corps of Engineers releases hunting map app
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials at the three Army Corps of Engineers reservoir projects on the Savannah River have introduced a new mobile application to aid hunters. The free app will cover the Thurmond Lake, Russell Lake and Hartwell Lake areas.
