Public Meeting for Former Pontiac Bombing Range in Richland County, S.C.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, will answer questions from residents living on the former Pontiac Bombing Range in eastern Richland County, during a public meeting May 1, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spring Valley High School Cafeteria, 120 Sparkleberry Lane, in Columbia, S.C.

Parksville Day Use Area Remains Closed

Parksville, SC. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, J. Strom Thurmond Project’s temporary closure continues at Parksville Day Use Area due to a public safety concern resulting from a large sink hole in the entrance road. Currently, there isn’t an estimated reopening date, but the process to repair it is being expedited. Guests are asked to please refrain from entering the park.

Upper Savannah reservoirs enter Drought Level 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The three reservoirs on the Savannah River operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers declared the first drought level Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, in response to the pool elevation at J. Strom Thurmond Lake dipping below 326.0 feet above mean sea level (ft-msl).

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, buoys inspection results at Lake Hartwell

HARTWELL LAKE, Ga. and S.C. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, recently conducted an “Aids to Navigation” inspection on Hartwell Lake to inventory all buoys, shoal markers and other aids to navigation to ensure proper placement, working condition and visibility.
