SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Bartram Trail’s Petersburg Trailhead will receive more than $100,000 worth of improvements thanks to a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, Southern Off-road Bicycle Association’s CRSA Chapter (SORBA-CSRA), and five businesses near J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake.
To prepare the trailhead for these improvements, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a timber harvest operation starting Tuesday, May 26. The Petersburg Trailhead and a portion of Bartram Trail between the trailhead and pond will be temporarily closed during the timber harvest operation. The area will be reopened once work is completed.
During the closure, trail users can access Bartram Trail from nearby trailheads at Wildwood, Lake Springs, and West Dam parks. Trail users can detour by riding through Petersburg Campground’s paved road toward sites 1-16 loop and access trail just past the pond. Temporary flagging and signs will assist with trail access.
For more information, contact the J. Strom Thurmond Project Office at 1-800-533-3478 or visit the SORBA-CSRA Facebook page.
