…these are just a few of the many types of "special events" that take place at J. Strom Thurmond, Hartwell, and Richard B. Russell Lakes each year.  Events typically require permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and may also require permission from state, local, or other agencies.

In order to minimize scheduling conflicts, reduce overcrowding, enhance public safety, and to ensure public access to recreation areas, each lake manages events through a Permit Program.

How to Obtain a Special Event Permit
Please complete a special event permit application and submit to the Thurmond Lake Office at least 30 days prior to event date. For larger events, please allow more time to process permit request.
